Youngster Gyau a confident catalyst for US attack
GUATEMALA CITY, Guatemala ? It's not so much the words coming out of Joe Gyau's mouth, but more the look in his eye.
The 18-year-old attacker, who surged through Suriname's defense again and again on Tuesday, understands how dangerous he was during the United States U-20s' opening match of the CONCACAF Championship.
Gyau scored, earned multiple free kicks and was the best player on the field for much of the 4-0 victory. Can he continue to do what he wants with the ball?
"I'm not going to say I don't feel like I can," he said, ?I'm pretty confident that I can.?

Stewart "humbled, honored" by Hall of Fame call
AMSTERDAM ? AZ Alkmaar technical director Earnie Stewart says he was feeling as modest and grateful as ever after beng informed of his National Soccer Hall of Fame inclusion on Monday.
The longtime US national team star will be enshrined alongside former US coach Bob Gansler and former international teammates Cobi Jones, Bruce Murray and Eddie Pope. For the 42-year-old, it was a momentous bit of news with great timing.
Garza eyes continued good form for US U-20s
GUATEMALA CITY, Guatemala ? The left back problem persists for the US.
Carlos Bocanegra isn't the answer. Jonathan Bornstein ? fresh off a shocker against Paraguay ? can do no right in the eyes of the collected masses, even when he does (see: World Cup 2010). And Jonathan Spector, nope.
But down in Guatemala, the flank was solidified ? for a night, at least.
Greg Garza, Thomas Rongen's embattled, frequently maligned, first-choice fullback, had himself a sublime performance against Suriname on Tuesday night during the U-20s' opening match of the CONCACAF Championship.

Despite win, room for improvement for US U-20s
GUATEMALA CITY, Guatemala ? The United States U-20 squad ran all over Suriname in their opening match of the CONCACAF Championship on Tuesday night, but head coach Thomas Rongen still feels like his team can improve going forward.
Sebastian Lletget, for example, found himself too deep, which also brought Conor Doyle too far back. The team let up for stretches of 10 minutes at a time. And Rongen?s charges could play forward more, instead of sideways or backwards.

Rookie Brettschneider impressive for DC reserves
WASHINGTON ? The one player perhaps making the most of this season?s return of the reserve league is a new face in D.C. United camp, and he?s also suddenly making life for head coach Ben Olsen very interesting.
Rookie Blake Brettschneider has scored three goals in two reserve games after an active and impressive preseason. But only time will tell if the Supplemental Draft Pick out of South Carolina can really crack a proven United front line.

Yesterday, the National Soccer Hall of Fame announced its induction class for 2011. Cobi Jones, Eddie Pope, and Earnie Stewart have all been elected into the Hall, in many ways putting the final touch on three excellent careers. WASHIGNTON ? D.C. United rookie defender Chris Korb doesn?t like to lose. That much was clear even a few days after the 23-year-old made his professional debut in a 2-1 defeat at New England.
Starting at the right back for injured regular Jed Zayner, the Akron product looked comfortable in DC?s defense and was glad to get that first pro experience done and dusted.
?It was exciting to get that first game out of the way,? Korb told MLSsoccer.com. ?I wish we would have won. It?s never fun when you lose and I?m pretty competitive, so it wasn?t the best first game.?
