The NHL All-Star Game's fantasy draft is seen by some as a last-ditch effort to "save" the exhibition.
Sure, the league's spotlight will shine on two outdoor games this season -- the New Year's Day Winter Classic and now the Heritage Classic set for Feb. 20 in Calgary -- and there will plenty of scribes and experts asking to make Sunday's All-Star Game in Raleigh, N.C., the last.
It's just not going to happen -- no matter how many players bow out or media types question its right to exist.
