Drury, 34, had missed the the past two games and he'd been battling soreness in his left knee, The Record reported.
"He tried to play on it," Tortorella told the newspaper. "It didn't work out."
Tortorella said Drury was going to have his knee "scraped out," which likely means some sort of arthroscopic procedure. It was not immediately known when the surgery would take place.
Drury is in the midst of a disappointing season that has seen him miss time with a broken finger. He's yet to score and has four assists in 23 games.
