Dan Snyder Tries to Get Washington Writer Fired, Threatens Legal Action

Filed under:

Dan Snyder has objected to a cover story about him that appeared in Washington D.C. weekly publication Washington City Paper, and is seeking the firing of its writer, Dave McKenna. Snyder has also threatened legal action against the paper.

Snyder complained about the content of the story to Creative Loafing Inc., a Tampa-based company that owns Washington City Paper and other publications, and to the management fund that oversees Creative Loafing Inc.

In response to the story, titled "The Cranky Redskins Fan's Guide to Dan Snyder," a letter was sent to the paper's owners claiming defamation. According to one of Snyder's lawyers, a lawsuit is being prepared.

Amy Austin, the paper's publisher, stood by McKenna, calling the story "very, very solid ... If there was something to correct, we would have corrected it." She added, "Dave is a stellar reporter. He provides original and well-reported content for us every week."

"We have been pushed in this direction, in our view," said Patty Glaser. "It's something we tried to avoid. We feel they have published untruths..."

The highly-critical story details many of Snyder's actions as owner of the Redskins and elsewhere and contains a doctored photo of Snyder with devil horns.
