Kerry Collins Could Start at Quarterback for Titans vs. Jaguars

Kerry CollinsKerry Collins could be healthy enough to start Sunday.

Collins, the Tennessee Titans quarterback who has missed the past two games with a calf injury, was the backup in a loss to Houston Sunday and Titans coach Jeff Fisher said Monday Collins is a possibility to start Sunday against Jacksonville.

"Kerry will be day-to-day," Fisher said. "We'll have a better idea late in the week; if he can start I will let you know."

Collins was healthy enough against Houston to backup rookie Rusty Smith, who made his first NFL start in the 20-0 loss. Vince Young, the Titans' starter much of the first 10 weeks of the season, was placed on injured reserve last week with a thumb injury.

Collins worked on a very limited basis in practice Friday and also warmed up Sunday.

Rip Hamilton Struggling Through the Fall of the Pistons

ORLANDO, Fla. -- This hasn't been easy for Richard Hamilton, watching his once-proud franchise slowly crumble around him, sliding downward from NBA champion to a team struggling to find respectability again.

Hamilton, 32, is mired in his worst season, playing less, scoring fewer points and wondering if this is how -- or where -- he will finish his once-celebrated career.

"It's tough. When you've had so much success and never been part of a situation where you've lost a lot of games, it's a tough situation to be in,'' Hamilton said before his Pistons lost 90-79 to the Orlando Magic Tuesday night. "You're just trying to stay motivated, stay focused.''

WASHINGTON ? When Ben Olsen retired from a 12-year career last October, he had no idea he?d be in charge of his former team a mere 10 months later. But as D.C. Source: Jon Gruden to Miami Reports 'Ridiculous'

Jon GrudenTAMPA, Fla. -- A close friend of Jon Gruden said Sunday night that Gruden has not accepted the job at the University of Miami and "doesn't believe it would be the right fit."

The source said he expects Gruden to remain at ESPN or eventually take an NFL head coaching job.

Gruden, an ESPN Monday Night Football color commentator who lives in Tampa with his family, is in Arizona preparing for Monday night's Cardinals-49ers game.

Lake Lewis, of the Sports Journey Broadcast Network and a former ESPN radio talk show host, reported Sunday from a "credible source that the next coach at University of Miami is John (sic) Gruden. About 3 Million a year!"

McMurphy's Law: John Marinatto Gets His Tie and Big East Gets Horned Frogs

Big East commissioner John Marinatto ventured out into the madness of Black Friday in Providence, R.I., in search of only one item: a purple tie.

Marinatto was unable to secure the coveted tie, but he got an even better present on Monday -- a new football member for the Big East.

TCU and the Big East announced Monday afternoon that the Horned Frogs would be joining the league for the 2012-13 school year.

When arriving in Fort Worth, Texas, TCU athletic director Chris Del Conte provided Marinatto with a purple and black tie -- and an even sharper looking football program.

Now that Marinatto has dressed up his league with a ninth football member, what's next?

"Our goal is to get to 10 (teams)," Marinatto told FanHouse. "That's what we said following our presidents meeting in November. Obviously there are circumstances that could change that -- if Penn State called tomorrow and said they wanted to join, we'd say yes and do it."

NFL Issues Ticket-Refund Policy in Case of 2011 Lockout

The NFL on Tuesday issued a formal policy governing the procedure by which fans would be refunded for tickets to any games (preseason or regular season) that aren't played as a result of a potential lockout in 2011. The players' union believes the move was the latest in a long line of moves the league has been making as part of a plan to lock out the players once the current collective bargaining agreement ends. The league claims it's just thinking of its fans.

"We looked at it from the perspective of the fan who might be wondering, 'How can I send in my check or charge my credit card for these tickets if there's any uncertainty?' " said Eric Grubman, the NFL's executive vice president for business operations. "We wanted to make it easier for fans to buy those tickets without worrying what might happen."

Alvin Gentry 'Maybe' Sticking With Hakim Warrick as Starter

Filed under:

Hakim WarrickPHOENIX -- Hakim Warrick was moved into the Suns starting lineup on Sunday, after coming off the bench for the team's first 16 games of the season. The decision made sense on paper: Warrick had averaged 24 points and 6.5 rebounds over the two games prior, and Hedo Turkoglu, while recently finding his touch a bit offensively, has struggled on the defensive end -- an area of even greater concern than usual for Phoenix at this point in the year.

But in the smallest of sample sizes -- just the one game against the Nuggets where the Suns gave up 138 points in a losing effort -- it didn't work out so well. Warrick struggled through a 3-of-12 shooting night, and was maybe his own worst critic afterward, saying via his Twitter account, "Boy did I suck 2night ... I'll def be better next game."

He may be better next game, but he may not get the chance to do so as a starter.
