Buccaneers Lose Game, Starters, Tempers in Baltimore

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers improbable season ran into a series of interruptions Sunday in Baltimore. There was the 17-10 loss to the Ravens, which continued the Bucs' (7-4) futility against teams with a winning record, but there were also key injuries on both sides of the ball.

And then there was the bizarre, combative behavior of cornerback Aqib Talib, who is in the midst of a good season.

The Tampa Bay offense was shut down with three points for most of the game before finally delivering a touchdown late. That can happen against the Ravens (8-3) on the road.

What was worse were the injuries, particularly with a key NFC South game coming up Sunday against the Falcons. Rookie safety Cody Grimm, who had been a physical presence the last few weeks, was lost for the season with a broken left ankle.

"Cody was a catalyst in making us violent," coach Raheem Morris said.

The Bucs also lost right guard Davin Joseph, perhaps the team's most physical run blocker, with a broken foot. He is out for the rest of the season.

Jeremy Zuttah will move in as the starting guard. Sabby Piscitelli and Corey Lynch could be the new starters at safety, but coach Raheem Morris said Ronde Barber could also move back to safety from corner.

As for his other corner, Talib, Morris defended his player in a Monday afternoon press conference. Talib got into a verbal confrontation with an official after the game and, according to reporters, had to be restrained from going after the official.

Talib was complaining about a pass interference penalty against cornerback Myron Lewis that set up a first half touchdown by the Ravens.
