The weekend firing by Miami of coach Randy Shannon was the first high-profile termination in the yearly nationwide coaching carousel. But because the Hurricanes attempt to build a wall around south Florida each season on the recruiting trail, Shannon's ouster is sure to send shock waves beyond the Miami fan base.
As of Monday, Miami had just seven public commitments on its board -- far fewer than most high-profile FBS teams have stockpiled to this point of the season. Of those seven, four are considered four-star talent by Rivals.com -- QB Teddy Bridgewater (6-3, 185, Miami, Fla., Northwestern HS), DE Anthony Chickillo (6-3, 226, Tampa, Fla., Alonso HS), WR Phillip Dorsett (5-10, 170, Fort Lauderdale, Fla., St. Thomas Aquinas HS) and DB Albert Louis-Jean (6-1, 172, Brockton, Mass., HS)
Perhaps more notable is that Shannon and his staff were not able to land any public commitments since Chickillo and three-star prospect Jeremy Davis (DB, 6-4, 189, New Berlin, N.Y., Milford Academy) committed on Sept. 9.
Indiana also fired Bill Lynch on Sunday after four seasons. The Hoosiers will try to shore up their 21 public commitments -- including four-star prospects LB Zack Shaw (6-3, 218, Coshocton, Ohio, HS) and ATH Raymon Taylor (5-10, 167, Detroit, Mich., Highland Park HS).
