Chan Gailey Still Unable to See if Shawne Merriman Fits Bills

When the Buffalo Bills claimed former San Diego Chargers linebacker Shawne Merriman off waivers on Nov. 3 they were hoping his addition would provide a boost to their pass rush as they looked to erase the goose egg from their won-loss record. A little less than three weeks later they still have no clue what he can do.

Merriman injured his Achilles' tendon in his very first practice with the team after Buffalo had suffered its eighth consecutive loss, 22-19 in overtime to the Chicago Bears and has been unable to practice ever since. The Bills have reeled off back-to-back wins over Detroit and Cincinnati, but Bills coach Chan Gailey doesn't expect to see Merriman on the field again this Sunday when the Pittsburgh Steelers come to Ralph Wilson Stadium, according to Chris Brown of BuffaloBills.com.

Gailey was pressed by reporters on the possibility that Merriman might not suit up for Buffalo this season, and he didn't sound too optimistic.
