Chargers Back in Hunt, and No One Should Be Surprised

Philip RiversSAN DIEGO -- For no good reason, people in San Diego work themselves into a lather.

They act like it's still a big deal to beat the Dodgers.

A few raindrops, and the spoiled babies fret over where the sunshine went.

Funniest of all, when their football heroes start a season slowly, they fume like it matters, like the Chargers don't pull this stuff every year, like the AFC West is a scary place.

It took a little longer this season for it to happen, but the Sky Is Falling Club here disbanded on Monday night. Not that the Chargers arrived by beating the pitiful Broncos 35-14 for their third consecutive victory, which put them alongside the second-place Raiders (5-5) and a game behind the Chiefs (6-4).

There's still work to do. Lots of it. But who would you pick to win the AFC West? A helpful hint from West Coast Bias: the team that won the AFC West each of the last four years.
