Filed under: Clippers, Nuggets, FanHouse ExclusiveWhile the Denver Nuggets have more than enough problems on their hands these days, they appear to have put at least one in the past.
According to Denver Police Department spokesman Sonny Jackson, the case against Nuggets shooting guard J.R. Smith has been closed. The seventh-year player was involved in an altercation at the team's practice facility on Aug. 13 that was first reported by FanHouse.
Police arrived on the scene after 26-year-old Damien Lolar claimed to have been attacked and choked by Smith during a pickup game. Lolar, who played at West Texas A&M and later for the now-defunct NBA D-League franchise Colorado 14ers, called the authorities himself, and the case had been closed once before and then re-opened before this latest development.
"Yeah the J.R. Smith story is basically that there's not enough evidence to move forward with that investigation," Jackson told FanHouse by phone. "(We're) not going to move forward at this time. Closed case, pretty much, unless something comes up that we're not aware of. But based on what we have at this point in time, it's currently a closed case."
