College Hockey Weekly: RedHawks Rising

Filed under: NHL Draft, College HockeyLast year was an emotional roller-coaster for the Miami RedHawks. In February, popular team manager Brendan Burke -- the son of Toronto general manager Brian Burke -- was killed in a car crash in Indiana. Players had to deal with the suddenness of their friend's passing, while also trying to move on and prepare for an NCAA tournament run.

After reaching the Frozen Four championship a year earlier, expectations in Oxford, Ohio, were high. Miami had a slew of talent on their team, one of the nation's best coaches in Enrico Blasi, and the sky was the limit for their program.

The RedHawks played well after Burke's passing, cruising into the CCHA semifinals at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit. They lost to Michigan, but still earned a No. 1 regional seed in the NCAA Tournament. Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments
