Tommy Hunter Puzzled by Giants' Success in Game 4

Filed under: Giants, Rangers, MLB Playoffs, World SeriesARLINGTON, Texas -- Count Tommy Hunter among those surprised by what the Giants did on Sunday night.

Asked if he expected what happened in Game 4 of the World Series, the Rangers' right-hander said: "No, no, no. That was totally unexpected."

What Hunter meant was the Giants' ability to foul off pitches and make him work. That turned out to be a key for them scoring two runs against him and knocking him out after four innings.

"You keep going after them and hope they ball into play," Hunter said. "When they did, they found holes. The ball fell in weird places tonight."

Here's the weird thing: during the season the Giants averaged 3.74 pitches per plate appearance, second fewest in the National League. Against Hunter, they averaged 4.61 pitches. He threw 83 pitches. Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments
