Maple Leafs Can't Afford Another Horrific October

Circle Tuesday, Nov. 2nd, on your Toronto Maple Leafs calendar.

That's the day, Leaf fans, when it should be clear whether your beloved blue and white hockey heroes have what it takes to make a run for a playoff berth this season.

It goes without saying that Leaf nation does not like to be reminded of last season's woefully bad start, which saw the Leafs win only one game in October. The trip-up out of the gate essentially shot any hope of a post-season berth, which would have been Toronto's first since 2004.

It's not a stretch by any means then to say the first month of the season is crucial to Toronto's playoff hopes, and that the first 10 games of the 82-game campaign will have an impact on where the Leafs end up in April when the 2010-11 regular season winds down.

All 10 games in October are against Eastern Conference opponents. That's 20 points in the standings up for grabs, 20 points that could just as easily haunt the Maple Leafs as well as help send them into the post-season. Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments
