College Hockey Weekly: Maine is Back

Filed under: NHL Draft, College HockeyEach week, FanHouse takes a look at what's going on in college hockey.

Since taking over as Maine's head coach in 2001, Tim Whitehead has compiled a pretty impressive record. He's won over 200 games and averaged over 20 wins per season, and neither number should be sneezed at.

Of course, when you're taking over for an unquestioned legend like Shawn Walsh, the expectations are probably inflated. Walsh won 399 games and two national championships at Maine before losing his career and life to cancer in 2001 at just 46 years old.

Whitehead has done good work, taking the Black Bears to four Frozen Fours. But Maine hasn't been to the NCAA Tournament since 2007.

It's a drought that -- unless something cataclysmic happens -- will end in March. Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments
