David Stern Supports LeBron James' Decision to Move to Heat

by Surya FernandezFiled under: Heat, Sports Business and MediaNBA commissioner David Stern was in the house for the Miami Heat's home opener against the Orlando Magic and he was in a good mood before tipoff. His enthusiasm for the start of the regular season after such a frenzied offseason was tempered somewhat with the looming dark cloud that could be protracted labor negotiations.

Nevertheless, Stern was happy to answer questions from the media about a wide variety of topics before the tipoff. Inevitably his thoughts on the biggest story in the NBA were offered and he was pleased to congratulate the Heat for their accomplishments this past summer.

"These roster changes in Miami have certainly occasioned a fair amount of publicity and it's kind of fun to watch all the speculation and the combination of 'mail the trophy to Miami' or not, 'play the season' or not, etc. But it's a great game and we always play the season and it always has interesting results.

"I'm really very happy for Micky Arison who has been very devoted to the Miami community," said Stern, noting that the Heat owner has continuously re-invested in his franchise over the years and is now reaping the benefits because of it. "They're going to have an interesting season because the expectations are very high." Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments
