DeAngelo Williams Doubtful Against Rams With Foot Injury

Filed under: Panthers, NFC SouthCarolina coach John Fox said Friday that running back DeAngelo Williams is doubtful for Sunday's game in St. Louis.

If there is a team that can handle news like that, it is the Panthers.

Williams, who has rushed for 361 yards this season, sprained a foot in last week's win over the 49ers, which ended a five-game losing streak for Carolina (1-5). The Panthers will make Jonathan Stewart their feature back, which is a good thing because how many teams can boast a 1,000-yard back as a backup?

Stewart has just 148 yards on 50 carries through six games. Last season, he had trouble getting started, but had five games of 100 yards or more, including a 206-yard game against the New York Giants.

"We went through it last year both ways. There's games where Jonathan couldn't play, and games that DeAngelo couldn't play," Fox said. "Regardless of what position on the football team, the next guy's got to step up. We've had a few of those already this year." Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments
