Jake Long Missing From Dolphins' Wednesday Practice

Filed under: Dolphins, AFC East, NFL InjuriesDAVIE, Fla. -- Miami Dolphins Pro Bowl left tackle Jake Long was not spotted on the practice field Tuesday morning during the allotted time for the media to observe drills.

The third-year offensive lineman, who was the first overall pick of the 2008 NFL Draft, played the entire game Monday night in a 41-14 loss to New England after being listed as probable late in the week with a left knee injury. After the game, he was seen going into the team's X-Ray room but did not have a visible limp and was not wearing any kind of brace or wrap.

Long first suffered the injury during Miami's final preseason game at the Dallas Cowboys on a play where quarterback Chad Henne was sacked and stripped of the ball in the third quarter and Dolphins coach Tony Sparano weathered some criticism regarding why his starters were still in the game at that point. But Long shrugged off the injury and played fine over the first four games, including a stellar outing against Minnesota Vikings Pro Bowl defensive end Jared Allen in a Week 2 victory.

Lydon Murtha is Long's backup at left tackle and he is almost identical in size at 6-foot-7 and 315 pounds. Long is listed at 6-7, 317, and Murtha was lining up with the first team this morning at Long's spot.

Rookie right guard John Jerry initially was not seen at all but near the end of the media viewing period he was spotted in a T-shirt on the sidelines taking mental reps. Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments
