Thomas Clayton Claimed Off Waivers by Browns

Filed under: Ravens, AFC NorthThe Cleveland Browns claimed former Brown running back Thomas Clayton off waivers after he was released by the New England Patriots and added former fourth-round pick of the Baltimore Ravens from 2006 Demetrius Williams to their roster. Another former Ravens wide receiver, Yamon Figurs, and running back James Davis' fates were sealed in the process.

"Finally was granted with my wish," said Davis on his Twitter account because of unhappiness with his playing time and role.

Browns head coach Eric Mangini gave well-wishes on Tuesday at his press conference.

"As with any move like this, I wish James well and hope he's able to take advantage of his next opportunity."

But after his stint with the San Francisco 49ers and the Patriots, Clayton is familiar with the system and welcomes his own return.

"The relationships here, not to mention the playbook, were something that I'm real familiar with," said Clayton on Wednesday morning. "It's pretty much identical to what I played with in San Francisco, believe it or not, so it was pretty easy to come in and get acclimated with everything.

"The thing is, I think the opportunity would've presented itself either way, but there was a level of comfort that I feel here and it was a level of comfort that I felt prior to leaving. It was good to come back. I was welcomed by both the players and the coaches, as well as the staff and everything.

"However, when New England made the call, I think they had some injuries over there and needed a back right away and we went along with that, always in the back of my mind knowing that it was a good situation here in Cleveland. I'm really excited they called me back." Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments
