Filed under: 76ers, HeatPHILADELPHIA -- The smirks about the stunted offense of the new-look Miami Heat might not have subsided completely in the second game of the regular season -- after all, the Big Three opened Tuesday at the defensive-minded Boston Celtics, and the next night faced the still-woeful Philadelphia 76ers.
Nevertheless, the Heat had no reason to apologize: between the points created by 76er turnovers and the 3-point marksmanship they all displayed, Miami's points came more easily as the night went on. The Heat earned the first win of their super-team era Wednesday, 97-87, at Wells Fargo Center.
The damage was truly done in the third quarter, when the Heat (1-1) outscored the 76ers, 31-13; the Heat also scored 31 points in the second quarter, when the perimeter onslaught really began. In those two quarters, James Jones -- one of the six Heat players active for the game who was returning from last season's roster -- went 6-for-7 on 3-pointers and scored 18 of his 20 points.
