Mullen previously ranked last in the SEC in base salary, but led the Bulldogs to a No. 21 ranking this season behind an 8-4 record. The team improved in most statistical categories in 2010, including points scored and points allowed. The deal includes a $1.4 million buyout.
"I didn't have any doubts we would get it done," MSU athletic director Scott Stricklin said. "We've been to bowl games before and we've been in the Top 25 before but our goal is to build a program that does it consistently. Dan and I share a lot of the same visions and ideas about ways to go about achieving that success. This contract is another example of that commitment."
