ORLANDO, Fla. - Knicks rookie Landry Fields just chuckled when he was asked about all the anticipation surrounding him after playing four years at Stanford.
He attended an NBA Draft Party of One.
"I just watched the draft in my room on television -- by myself,'' he told FanHouse Thursday night before the Knicks-Magic game. "When my name was called, I remember jumping up on the bed and screaming. But I don't think anyone heard me.''
So much for great expectations.
Fields has been lost this season in all the attention being paid to highly-anticipated rookies like Blake Griffin, John Wall and DeMarcus Cousins, but Fields clearly has been the most pleasant surprise of all.
Nothing was expected -- he was the 39th selection in that draft -- but so much has been delivered.
He is leading all NBA guards in rebounding and is among the rookie leaders in every statistical category, playing a role in the resurgence of one of the league's most storied franchises.
