Jaguars Place David Garrard on Injured Reserve

Filed under:

It's been an extremely bad two weeks for the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Rewind the calendar to Dec. 19 and the Jaguars simply needed a win against the Colts to virtually wrap up the AFC South title. Now the Jaguars head into Sunday needing a win against the Texans, a Colts' loss against the woeful Titans, and the knowledge that they'll have to do it without their starting quarterback.

David Garrard was placed on injured reserve on Thursday after surgery to repair an injured finger. The Jaguars will have to rely on backup Trent Edwards (who they picked up off waivers from the Bills this year) for both this week's game and any possible playoff games. Jacksonville will also likely be without its offense's best player, as Maurice Jones-Drew is expected to be out again with a knee injury.

Garrard's trip to the injured reserve is a disappointing finish to what had shaped up to be a solid season for the veteran quarterback. Garrard was putting together the second best season of his nine-year career, only topped by his 2007 performance where he threw 18 touchdowns and only three interceptions while leading Jacksonville to the second round of the AFC playoffs.

Now there are questions about Garrard's future in Jacksonville. Considering his poor end to the season, there is some speculation that Garrard's time in Jacksonville could be over. But considering the difficulty of acquiring a franchise quarterback, it's hard to see how Jacksonville could find a better one than Garrard for the 2011 season.
