No player on the free agent market saw his stock rise as much or as fast as
Dan Hamhuis this past summer. Everybody wanted him. He was involved in a series of offseason transactions, having his rights traded from Nashville to Philadelphia, and then from Philadelphia to Pittsburgh, before finally testing the open market and signing a lucrative contract with the
Vancouver Canucks. He's an excellent two-way defenseman that can move the puck and take care of business in his own end of the rink, and he also has one of the best hip checks in the
NHL at his disposal.
It was on display Saturday during Vancouver's 6-1 thrashing of San Jose, as he sent 240-pound defenseman
Douglas Murray (Hamhuis is listed at 209 pounds, a 31-pound difference) flying through the air with this textbook hip check.
